NIELSEN AVERAGE AUDIENCE: Number of TV households tuned to the program during the average minute, reported in percent of U.S. TV households.  As of September 1, 1971, the number of U.S. TV households (excluding Alaska and Hawaii) is estimated at 62,100,000, approximately 95.8% of all U.S. households.

SHARE OF AUDIENCE: audience during the average minute of the program, in percent of households using television at the time of the program's principal telecast in the Eastern, Central, and Pacific Time Zones.  (Mountain Time Zone households located in the Nielsen Pacific Territory are included with Pacific Time Zone households.  All other Mountain Time Zone households are included with Central Time Zone households.)  Share of audience makes it possible to compare programs telecast at times when TV usage levels are different, i.e., different hours of the day or different seasons of the year.
